• Responsible for assisting in technical design, product development and production. A Technical Designer must know and understand the Apparel Product development and Production life cycle and should be able to guide through the complete process to the product development and Apparel Production team.
• Creating and updating techpacks and flat sketches in Illustrator and Excel. Tech Pack Design is one of the Most important part of job for a technical designer. Apparel Designer must know how to set the process plan the style, its production possibilities, material requirements, stitching and construction process, color detailing and fabric composition etc.
• Creating seasonal line-sheet for sales and calculating costs and yields for each style. Technical Apparel Designer is also expected to prepare the seasonal collection based on Fashion Trend, Color Trend and seasonal demand. So keeping those things in Mind Technical Apparel Designer should proceed with collection design and then tech packs.
• Communicating daily with domestic and overseas factories to ensure timely deliveries and quality product. Technical Designer is also expected to do the Quality Assurance and Quality Control Activities of the Apparel Production that goes in Garment Manufacturing Units. The Products that are being developed must get the approval of the Technical Apparel Designer before it actually goes for the final approval. Apparel Designer must check that every thing that is mentioned in the tech pack is being followed and the product that has been designed is as per the tech pack.
• Communicating with mills and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of fabrics and trims and the best possible pricing. Any product developed must meet the price and as per the end consumer price expectation. So Doing a pro per costing of the garment and preparing a perfect bills of material is important as this affects the price that goes to the ultimate consumer. This also determines the profit margin that the Apparel Brand is making. So keeping the price low without affecting the style detailing and quality is important.
• Help with sourcing new factories, mills and trim suppliers. Sourcing Apparel Production Units with right resource and facility is very important because that is ultimately going to affect the quality of product that apparel brand gets. Factory Visits, and making sure the factory producing the product has right kind of industrial machines, right environment and right prople working there. This is one of the toughest struggle for any apparel brand. So before going ahead with Product development and Apparel Production it is important that you know who is producing your product and what is the condition and environment that garment manufacturing unit producing your garments.
• Creating and updating spreadsheets that track all essential information for all styles. Periodical Updates on Apparel Production is important as it would give you prior information weather your apparel production is on track or not. You must have a periodical information updated in either on a spread sheet or through any software or erp that you are using. This would give the right information on how your production is proceeding, quality checks are done properly and so on.
